Originally carved in a workshop we taught about cuttlebone casting this piece was originally created by a student. It turned out so well we incorporated it into our production. Cuttlefish are related to squids and Octopus and their cuttlebone skeleton is all that remains when they die, These often wash ashore. Somehow they are soft enough inside to be carved and stand up to extremely high heat, and so they have been used for jewelry molds dating back to the 7th century, especially in Mediterranean countries.
