As we neared the end of 2020, the cooks at the old Gosman's restaurant here in Montauk discovered a giant Quahog pearl as they shucked clams for chowder. It was nearly the size of a gumball, perfectly round and a light lavender in color. The story started off in the local papers but made its way to mentions on NPR and CBS morning shows as we all starved for any morsel of good news that year. The following summer, we displayed the pearl at our former brick-and-mortar store and auctioned it off in a raffle that raised money for the local food bank.
The cards honoring the pearl are 5" x 5" and come with a bright yellow envelope and are protected by eco-friendly clear bags. Artwork by Dave Fox.
